Nabaki Afrika

Nabaki Afrika is extremely proud and delighted to support and be a part of Nipe Fagio.

Dar’s evolution from a small sleepy city in the early ‘90s, to the expanding giant of over 4 million (and growing) it is today,
does not come without its challenges. How many of us are tired of complaining about the dismal and deteriorating
situation, and apparent lack of awareness and action from our Government and fellow residents? How many of us have
been itching to do something about the situation, or simply make suggestions, but have felt alone and helplessly stuck in
non-action due to the enormity of the task?
Nipe Fagio is our solution! A community platform through which we can all be involved and really make a difference to
our environment and society. Nipe Fagio is a positive and energetic initiative which inspires and channels collaborative
thinking, action, responsibility and accountability between all levels of society, from Government to business to civil
societies, NGOs, neighbourhoods, and right down to little old you and me! Our environment is not the responsibility of
the ‘they’ and the ‘them’, it is each and every one of ours – we co-create and co-exist in it, we need to be ‘be the change
we want to see’.

Ten years of living  between the coconut palms and the shoreline of Tanzania's Mbezi Beach, was like having a front row seat in Nature's dramatic rendition of "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly". Each day revealed itself remarkably, in a different hue ..  sunny turquoise days when the sea was tranquil and beckoning;  grey days when silhouettes draped in varying shades of steel looked ominous and brooding. And then there were very special days which bought with them, an exquisite beauty that left you feeling both humbled and honored.

In the very midst of this splendor, our daily rhythm was punctuated increasingly by the life sapping reverberations of dynamite fishing. The fall-out was a sad scattering of undignified sea creatures which lay rotting in the sun. And when it rained, swollen rivers  spewed out plastic bags, shoes, syringes, glass bottles, building rubble and more plastic.

Whilst living within this contradiction, a simple truth came home to roost:  We have the choice to continue our role in this spiral of destruction, or we take action to stop it.  Nipe Fagio offers a broom of redemption - an opportunity to do something about saving our world, where it matters most; at home with our families, at school, at work, in our streets, our playgrounds and on our beaches.

DJPA

At DJPA we like talking trash.
We can talk about trash in the storm drains, by the roadside, on the greens, in the rivers, on the beach, in the sea. We can talk about trash practically anywhere in Tanzania and to everyone. Because everyone is affected and everyone needs to get involved.
It's time to stop Tanzania's public spaces turning into public dumps.

We are using our skills in public messaging & behavior change communications to help bring about change with the Nipe Fagio initiative.  Change at every level: from the average Tanzanian on the street, to municipal & government level.  Tackling one problem with one message - time to 'grab the broom' and effect change in your area, but addressing different groups in different ways:

•   A full Behaviour Change Communication encouraging Tanzanians from all walks of life to do their bit, starting with the 'Haba na Haba' littering campaign.
•  Strategic and clear messaging targeting the highest level municipal and government.
•  Recognizing individual projects, raising awareness and garnering support in local community ownership.

It's time to turn talk into action. Let's sweep out the trash.

WASTEdar is pleased to partner with and support Nipe Fagio. Living in one of the fastest growing cities in the world, the opportunities to focus and capitalize in business are obvious, however what opportunities do we have to stretch, relax, meet and discuss as members of the public in public areas. We need to reclaim our parks, beaches and benches from the heaps of waste and build new public infrastructure in respect of the masses of young, entrepreneurial and visionary persons that set up home in our metropolis every day. Nipe Fagio has designed a multi-stakeholder platform that calls upon all of us to take action. Whether you are a politician or business person working in the centre of town, a development worker or student working in the field, a visitor simply travelling through Dar or a market vendor navigating your trade across a rapidly expanding and demanding city, you are responsible and we need your help. Roll up your sleeves, take a few hours off work, spread a message and help Nipe Fagio to transform Dar es Salaam into a more livable and environmentally friendly city
