On the 12th Nov 2015 Nabaki Afrika, a wholesaler of building products and construction materials, opened a neighbourhood recycling depot in Mikocheni Light Industrial Area. This initiative was carried out in collaboration with Nipe Fagio and The Recycler.
The Recycler is a professional recycling company and along with the collection point at Wonder Workshop, it now has two operational recycling depots open for public use in Dar es Salaam. The map below shows where you can take your different waste materials!
Neighbouring businesses were invited to attend the opening event at Nabaki Afrika. A positive turn out of 27 representatives from 17 different organisations were in attendance! The event focussed on promoting Better Waste Practices (BWP) within the neighbourhood. Raising awareness of what and where local businesses and individuals can recycle is important in order encourage safer, cleaner and greener spaces on a larger scale.
This initiative is not just a positive change for Nabaki Afrika, a cleaner environment means a safer and healthier one for everyone. Next steps outlining participant feedback focussed on local collaboration and raising awareness of BWP both at work and home. This enthusiasm not only encourages other businesses to follow suite, but is also a positive sign for the potential success of this facility!
Those in attendance included businesses located on the Sam Nujoma and Coca Cola Roads, Tumaini University, the area Ten Cell Leader , Environmental Health Officer, Kinondoni Municipality Waste Officer, Tanzania Green Build Council as well as some partners from the Mlalakuwa River Restoration Project. There was also extensive press coverage by The Citizen, The Guardian, Nipashe and Azam TV.
